Pillar 3- Identity

You can have the best strategy in the world, but you will never out-earn or out-perform your own identity.

I see it every day: Someone sets a massive goal, they make a few "Big Decisions," and then, inevitably, they self-sabotage.

They go back to the couch. They go back to the old habits.

They think they lack willpower. They don’t.

They just have an identity that is too small for the life they are trying to build.

In today’s deep dive, we’re breaking down Pillar 3: The Identity.

The "Safe" You vs. The "Future" You

Your brain has a biological bias toward consistency. It wants your external world to match the past. It wants things to stay the same.

Brain Science: If your identity is "People Pleaser," your brain will actually create physical anxiety (Cortisol) when you try to say "No" to someone. Why? Because your brain views "saying no" as a threat to who you are.

To actually accomplish your goals you have to feed your brain a "new normal| until it recognizes the Future You as the new Safe You.

You have to move from "I am trying to be a writer" to "I am a writer." One is an attempt; the other is an identity.

Audit your past and current identity.

Ask yourself these 3 questions:

  1. What labels or roles am I giving myself that are keeping me small? (e.g., "I'm just a stay-at-home mom" or "I'm not a tech person.")

  2. What areas of my life drain my energy because I’m trying to please others instead of honoring my goals?

  3. What does the "Future Me", the one who has already reached the goal, do differently than I do right now?

This Week’s Challenge

Stop tolerating a version of yourself that is too small for your dreams.

Pick one label you’ve been using to describe yourself that is limiting (e.g., "I'm disorganized," "I'm a slow learner," "I'm not a leader").

This week, I want you to act in direct opposition to that label just once a day. If you're "disorganized," spend 2 minutes organizing one drawer. Give your brain the data that the old label is a lie.

Hit reply and tell me: What is one label you are deleting this week?
